The art of becoming

To become who you are, first you must break. But no one mentioned how many times you must break before becoming her. Actually in truth no one mentioned breaking at all.

No one mentioned the silence we will sit through while we try holding ourselves together.

No one mentioned that in a room full of people, you can still feel alone, unseen, misunderstood.

No one mentioned that people will leave you when you're experiencing these moments.

Well no one mentioned it to me, I learn't it all the hard way.

A lot of times they were a blessing in disguise. But when you're in the chaos of it, that's not always easy to see.

Recently I am unlearning that it's not breaking,  but it's more of an unfolding. Like in the way a rose unfolds throughout its lifespan, but not always as delicately.

Each time that I unfold I discover more and more of who I am hidden beneath the surface of my skin.

Each layer more in depth than the last.

Sometimes the process of unfolding is heartbreaking. Gut wrenching. It will bring you to your knees. It will make you pause in your grief.

Watching the world from the opposite side of the window.

Other times the process of unfolding is life-changing.  You're living in the moment. You're over flowing with love. You're the adventure.

Sometimes you lose who you  are.

And you won't always trust that you'll find yourself again.

But baby you always do.

And remember in every unfolding, in every moment that we, you and I lose ourselves, we are actually becoming the version of ourselves that we dreamed of. And there is so much magic in knowing that.
